Renting your tools is a smart and sustainable choice

Buying a tool just to use it twice? Not necessary. For over 100 years, Simplex has offered a smart, economical, and responsible alternative: renting. Behind this practical choice lies a forward-thinking model. The sharing economy is transforming how individuals, project managers, and businesses access equipment. Fewer unnecessary purchases, less hassle, and—most importantly—greater efficiency on the job site. Welcome to a sustainable model... that makes your life easier.

The Sharing Economy, in Real Life

The sharing economy is built on a simple idea: use instead of own.
In construction, renovation, or even home improvement, this means avoiding equipment sitting idle in a garage or warehouse.

Real-world examples:

  • A boom lift can be used by several crews on different job sites
  • A sander can be rented for a weekend renovation project
  • A mobile scaffold can be shared between multiple rental properties

The result: better use of resources, less waste, lower fixed costs, and access to well-maintained, up-to-date tools.

Simplex: Sharing Since Day One

The sharing economy isn’t just a trend for us. It’s part of our DNA.

From the very beginning, our business model has been built on this fundamental principle. Today, more than ever, this approach is gaining momentum—helping to reduce unnecessary purchases, optimize equipment usage, and ensure everything is in perfect condition thanks to the maintenance performed by our experts. And all while lowering costs and environmental impact.

But Simplex goes even further. Since 2020, we’ve undertaken a major transformation to integrate every aspect of sustainable development into our operations and among our employees, so it becomes part of who we are. With enthusiasm and our team’s expertise, we aim to position Simplex as the forward-thinking equipment rental company of Québec—with a sustainable action plan that’s structured, measurable, and evolving.

“The sharing economy is a sustainable model that helps solve many future challenges.”

Our commitment also takes shape through concrete actions, built around six major focus areas that address ecological, social, and economic pillars. Since 2020, we’ve accelerated our green shift with measurable results. A few examples:

  • We’re shifting to electric for our light vehicle fleet. As of 2025, 24 of our 37 vehicles are electric Volkswagen ID.4s, progressively replacing our F-150s
  • Several branches have begun switching to electric heating systems to reduce their carbon footprint
  • A dedicated program for heavy vehicles promotes eco-driving to reduce GHG emissions

Why Renting is a Win

Whether you’re a homeowner, a project manager, or a procurement lead, renting gives you:

  • Controlled budgets: no purchase, no maintenance costs, no storage headaches
  • Ready-to-go tools: inspected, maintained, and safe
  • Total flexibility: rent what you need, when you need it
  • Reduced environmental impact: one tool can serve multiple clients

Example: For a property owner, renting a boom lift three times a year is more cost-effective than owning and storing one year-round.

What if renting became an everyday sustainable choice?

Renting means choosing the right tool, at the right time. It means avoiding unnecessary purchases. It means supporting a more sustainable model—without sacrificing performance.

And with Simplex, it’s just that simple.
